Multiple Rigs

I have only recently started using MAYA,
Ive downloaded a rig and want to make an animation with it. I need multiple rigs in the scene, how is this possible? Is there a way to create a copy of the same rig in a single file. I have tried duplicating the rig but i cannot move the parts of the copy?
I am using MAYA 2008,
Any help would be much appreciated.
