My Maya Won't Load Properly

Hi. I've been running Maya unlimited 7.0 on my G5 for over a year. All of a sudden it won't load. I get the start up splash screen that says it's loading, then the script editor opens listing the following errors:

UI objects not found and I've got no layout or interface. The only items in the menu bar at the top of my screen say "Maya", "Cloth", "Constraints", and "Simulation" if I try to select anything I see a flash of pink script editor saying something about no cameras, then it crashes completely.

I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling, deleting userPrefs.mel, using other programs to uninstall then reinstall maya, I've used disk utility to repair permissions and test my system, I don't know what to do. if anybody has any suggestions I'd really appreciate it.

Renemabe the maya folder in your user preference sto something like mayabackup

Then uninstall maya and delete the maya install folder to get it really clean. then reinstall maya.

Delete all env ras named maya.

It sounds like your running into issues with a overloades file seomewhere. One prime reason would be gelato wich reallly behaves badly.

I don't get it. I just tried creating a new user account and maya runs normally from there. Now I have to figure out exactly what I did to cause this to happen.

What happened was your new user account created a new maya folder in your docs, thus reseting all your prefs and envs to default - these have a way of getting corrupted from time to time. This is what Joojaa's method suggested, only you didn't have to uninstall it this time.

If you follow what Joojaa said, sans the uninstalling, your other account should return to normal insofar as Maya is concerned.

Thanks, I really do appreciate the suggestions. It makes perfect sense that the new user account created a new clean maya folder in preferences.

The problem I'm having is that even after deleting the user preferences including the Maya.env file, even deleting the whole folder, the program still won't launch properly in my main user account. That makes me think it has to be something else that's interfering with maya. I have to trace back everything I did Sunday or Monday and figure it out what went wrong from there. At least now I know it's not the program itself or my hardware.

Theres a addition to maya script paths in your system user environment, typically GELATO wichgh does NOT work well, as it crashes gui load if the geklato version wasnt compiled for your version of maya.

I did figure out the problem. It was the "workspace.mel" scripts within my project folders. I went through all my project folders, deleted the "workspace.mel" files and all of a sudden Maya opens, the interface is back. Don't know how they got corrupted but Maya launches normally now and I'm so happy!

i am having this exact same problem, the script editor is opening and displays the text below. However none of these solutions helped. I renamed my maya preferences folder, I uninstalled, I reinstalled, I deleted the workspace.mel files, and nothing works, however if I log on as a different user it did work. Any ideas? Im on a mac, this problem didn't happen until it crashed on me once.

are you sure you understand the instructions? Also disable any OTHER folders you keep mel scripts in.

I renamed my maya preferences folder, I uninstalled, I reinstalled, I deleted the workspace.mel files, and nothing works. I even ran a search to make sure there are no .mel files. I don't know what gelato is, but I'm pretty sure I don't have it. It makes sense that removing the prefs folder should reset the user preferences, but this doesn't appear to be happening, since the same problem keeps occurring even when it recreates the prefs folder. I don't know what I could be missing.

Are your factory melscripts intact? I mena whan you install anew is the computer 100% free of all mel scripts? Because when you do a install maya does not necessarily overwrite existing files so a modified factory script will keep being modified. Same applies to python scripts.

Anyway try alos upgrade your display drivers,

so i solved the problem. i had deleted/renamed the maya prefs folder as stated. and since i removed all .mel files from the maya>projects folder, i assumed there was no reason to view this as the culprit. however, once i renamed the maya folder in my documents folder, it created a new maya>projects folder and started working. i'm not sure why, as i said, i removed all the .mel files. so add changing the name of the default projects folder to the list of things to do for this error.
