My MOVIE is done: download the divx version now

Hey guys, I just finished my short movie the other day.
I have a 720X360 divx compressed render that can be downloaded at this link. I hope you have a fast connection, its 50mb. You get fast transfer rates from this link tho, so it's not that bad.It's kind of dissapointing how divx robs the video of so much color and clarity, but this is just the net version of my reel, the tape/dvd version is much clearer. Divx is still the best choice for compression anyways.

by the way I would appreciate it if you turn off all your lights, crank up the speakers and watch it full screen with the letterbox black bars on the top and bottom to get full effect. =)

I cant do much about it, sorry man.

if you have cable, adsl, or t1 connection it takes around 10 minutes... but if you only have dial up it's gonna take awhile.

YUp, took 15 mins on cable at work, but this is shared with 12 comps...
For the filesize, I think most of that space is being generated by the sound so unless you want it to be mono 22000 khz there's not much you can do about it... I wouldn't change it, it's well worth the wait!
Now for your movie; YOU DID THIS BY YOURSELF? ALL IN MAYA? G-sus H Christ man! It fooking ROX! The camera and overall animation is great, texturing is near perfect (besides from a few moire's and the guy looking a bit too 'clean' for my taste, it IS perfect) there's just one tiny itty bitty remark I have; it lacks concept and storyline...
It helps when you think up a concept and storyline / board before you start venturing off into a big project like this. Your audience will like it more if you gave it some more thought...
Cause when I saw this my first reaction was ' wauuuuw, this rocks...' then after two more times, 2nd to check out your nice texturing, 3rd to check all the animation and story again I was wondering 'what was the story in this movie?'...
Overall, very nice work man, don't let my ass put you down cause I only dream of ever being able to this (skill AND time-wise!)...

i agree...it's well worth the wait, and i woldn't want it any smaller.

animation and character of the guy was spot on. the car, well, all i can say is...i want one, not sure why it drove off though.

very well put together.

who are you sending this out to, keep us posted on the companies you get in contact with. if this doesn't land you a job somewhere good...well, somethings wrong somewhere!

only criticism, some of the animation of the raptors was a little stiff in places, the tail didn't seem to flow as well as it should...but this is a very minor point.

what did yo uuse for the sound effects at the end, sounded like something frying, or a sweet wrapper being crunched up!!

Good job! That shows a substantial amount of work. If you really want some type of ctiticism I'd probably comment on the story line and making it a little bit more clear in some areas. But since this is a one man production I think it's quite good for a demo reel and will most likely grab someone's attention.

maos52> thanks for the help, ya your right i checked my preimere output settings and the movie is compressed with divx but the actual sound is uncompressed still. i cant get divx to compress the sound. if you have any suggestions please gimme a hand...
and yup i made this movie all by myself in about 10 months... a few people are slamming me for the story but geez, im just making a demo reel here, not the next jurassic park! my story ties in all the things i like, i think its pretty cool for a demo reel story, but most importantly i really wanted to focus most of my energy on the 3D aspect. thanks for your compliments tho, i really appreciate it

leach > thanks buddy, ya i really couldnt comprimse the screen size, i had to make it 720X360..anything less would have been too small to see all the details... it already killed me to compress it in DIVX where it robs the quality of color and sharpness... ill keep you posted as to where im applying, right now i have a list of around 25 companies... im going to be outputting 25 copies today and sending them out tommorow. i really hope i get a job... it's funny, my friend said something very similar to what you said... "if i dont get a job with my reel, there is something wrong with the 3d industry"
regardless, this is a nervous yet exciting time for me, after so long hearing everyones feedback and getting peoples reactions.
oh and leach, the reason why the car is in my reel is because it's actually a model of my real car! i know it probably doesnt make sense why there is a crazy car in the movie, but to me and my friends its a hoot seeing my car being jumped on and stuff by raptors haha

Hi, I'm not too good at sound compressions myself but I had an idea; would it be possible to make it into a MP3? And stream that alond the divx? (Or am I sounding silly and can divx do this even better?)
I'm pretty confident you will get into almost any company you'd like with this on your reel! All you have to do now is relax and be yourself if you have an interview... Ow, what future bosses often ask about are your goals, what you think your going to do for the company and want you want to be doing... sounds weird but they want to hear it from you. Good luck man! (although I seriously doubt you'll need it!

compressing to MP3 is something you should be able to do. however, in my version of premier, if i attempt to compress sound to anything other than "uncompressed" it crashes.

one thing that might have been quite cool was once all the credits are finished, to show the ending. But instead of it being the expected one..ie, raptor has ripped fat bloke to shreds and is currently feasting on his liver, he's actually a friendly raptor and is just licking him!! kinda dumb i know. obviously your not going to do this, errmm, so i dont know why i wrote this...D'oh

btw, what were those sound FX at the end from?

Hey, i cant watch it. I have windows media playe 7, and it connects to the site for the codec, then nothing happens...it just plays the sound file and thats it. it took me forever and a day to download this file,a nd now i cant watch it!
could someone send me a link to the codec and insctructions on how to install it?

weell, compressing the sound (not using pcm) would greatly reduce the size!

But nevertheless, the movie is absolutly great. the best i have seen in one of these forums yet!

three things i didn't like were(might need some work
the car is a bit too clean
some spots in the room and the garge are too dark
the shaking of the camera to the fosteps is a bit too strong

maos > i just found out that to get divx to work for the sound when compressing it in premiere you need to use this program called FLASK. My friend just told me about it so ill figure it out and get back to you.

leach>> actually i was going to have this ending where the next shot fades in from black and you see the fat guy back on the couch watching tv and the camera dollys back and the raptor is sitting on the couch beside him chillin and drinking a beer, watching TV

the sound effect is i think rubber gloves with vaseline and something else...

fubar > thanks to you to, i guarantee you that the dark parts in the room and the parking lot are due to divx compression. on the high quality render i have on my computer there are no dark spots... i hate divx, it ruins the quality of my film but its still the best option right now...

The raptor looks simply great!

Alot of people have said the car was unecissary, but I like it - just wanted it more integrated into the story, like the guy trying to run over the dino or something.

Who do you think would win in a parking lot, you in your car, or a beasty like that?

• didn't think the bald guy fit as well - the raptor and car were sooo real - and he looked more from a video game.

Not to trash! No way - first film - kick A$$ - you will only get better.

it would be nice if people kept in mind this IS still a demo reel, and a demo reel is suppose to show off what you can do and your range of skills.

now a big reason for the car besides the fact that it's actually my car, is because i wanted to show companies that not only could i model a human, a wierd animal, and a large and small set, but that i could model a machine.
it's so i cover everything...
