Need help on installing Renderman License Server

hey mates, i recently was ripped off by a guy from romania that sold me their copy of Pixar Renderman, it came complete but the only problem is that it the when i install the license server, it stops the operation in the middle of installation saying that an error has occured. Ive contacted Pixar and they said they cant help me since my copy was not purchased from them and that it is not transferable. Im also running Maya Unlimited v.4.02, under Windows XP Prof. Edition. is there a possibility that there is a software conflict? Your help will be very much appreciated. Thanks.

This is not warez!
He is legally allowed to purchase this software - pixar cannot stop this. What he can't do is get a maintenance/license contract for the product or support form Pixar. Unfortunately - as PRMan licensing is FLEXLM and goes off your network card address, you will not be able to run the software even if you DO manage to get it installed. Unless of course you got the NIC included in the purchase.

This is not illegal - what is illegal is using software that has been obtained illegally. They say licenses are not transferable, but no case has been sucessfull where a legitimately licensed product has been sold on, all the vendor can do, is refuse to generate a new license for you or support you in anyway - they cannot stop you having, buying or selling it.

So anyway - to answer your question, RAT doesn't install under XP properly - so even if you DID have a valid support contract, it would still crash. I know of a couple of customers that manually extracted the files from the MSI installer, but lets be honest - if you are having probs installing the damn thing, how stable is it's operation going to be????

Common dude, he is obviosly asking this because he is planning on installing the crack. He just can't get that far because he is having instalation problems. Anyways he posted on the shake forum the same day asking about passwords for the customer download section. Smells like a warez puppy to me. This whole thing sounds like a BS sob story to get people to feel sorry for him and give him the information he needs. Wolf in sheeps clothing.

RAT5/PRMAN 10 is compatible with XP, just not rat4.5/prman3.9 and earlier.

I like to give people the benefit of the doubt. I wont jump to conclusions lightly.

Maybe he is using a cracked version, but my point was that (and I am assuming he is talking about 4.5) it doesn't work properly under XP (I know V5 does)

And secondly, that it isn't illegal to buy software, its just you can't get a licence for it or support.

I dont realyl care either way to be honest - I know some people do use dodgy software, not something I would encourage, hell I even know some idiots who use cracked versions of firewall/AV apps - how dumb is that???? sitting behind a cracked firewall - realllly safe

anyway, he aint going to get a good resolution either way to this problem.

Hi there

I had that problem with my copy, and there IS a way around, it's a little tricky but I'm running a dual Athlon MP1900+ w/ WXP and RAT 4.5 PERFECTLY w/ no hangs or nothing like that....

Well the secret is .....

When you're installing the licence server you have to press the cancel button just a moment before it rolls back and uninstall every thing.

This ways all the files are still in the Program Files/Pixar/License Directory, copy that directory to another folder, and also copy the registry (w/ registry editor) named pixar license server to a .REG output file.

Then cancel the installation of the license server re-copy that directory you had copied to other location into the proper license directory, add the .REG file to your registry, restart the computer, load maya load prman
and have Phun....

Kinda tricky huh?

but worked for me....

just to let you all know that RAT4.5 does work on XP.
