Need help with Vector Render and ai-file export

Hi out there,

I'm having trouble with Maya's Vector render: I want my final render image to be an Illustrator Vector image: So I go into my render settings and choose the Vector Render. As image format I'm picking ai and as Frame/Animation Ext: name.ext (Singel Frame). Under the comon tab I can see that the picture output is supposed to be an ai-file in my project's image folder.

HOWEVER: When i do the rendering, I get an IFF-file in my image folder. I tried to open that file in Illustrator but no luck. I have played around with the settings and looked around for solutions, but I just cant get Maya to produce me an ai. (also when i tried to produce an eps file or svg - same result: Maya just gives me IFF)

I'm using Maya 2011 64bit on Windows 7.

It would be great if anybody could help me out, need the vector render for school work

When you render a preview render (the reder button insdie maya) maya makes a iff file in the tmo directory, because otherwise its not eble to show you the result in the view port which si what the preview is for not final rendering. However it still makes a ai file one directory up.

On the oetherhand maya defaults to iff IF theres some confusion about the settings in batch render, so try to force the renderer to be vector form commandline if this is the case (also specify project!). It happens to mental-ray and other non maya software renders on occasion when launched form within maya. But then if you did this for production work youd always launch hit form a cmd shell of some kind in whatever render manager you use.
