Hey,

We are Wilbert and Marcel, 2 graduate students from Kunst en Techniek (Media Art and Technology) in Holland. For our graduation we're making a short animation.
Through this forum we would like to get some replies on what you think about our project.

first of all, i know maya, and blastcode, but what is overburn?

and your site...well i kinda cant understand German, but the music is cool.

And your characters really are flawless, but somewhy (really dont know why)they just dont "go".Maybe they look cool in motion however.

Maybe i just figured out whats wrong, your characters lack distinctive facial features. They are just generic faces.ehh...i dont even know what i mean...whatever..

The Overburn plugin is a great way to simulate smoke, fire and explosions through particles that interact with fluids. If you're a beginner (like me) and don't know how to create realistic fire and smoke, it's a great help. You can find it at:

They look pretty good to me. Although, If you could find a way to emphasize the eyebrows more, that might make them more exressive. The girl's brow is thin and flat and has a "drawn on" look. Also, the corners of her mouth are a little odd, like the upper lip is folded under. You might want to move the texture outward a little and round the edge of her lip. On the other hand, you aren't trying to be photoreal here, so it might be best to keep the stylizations. I didn't look at everything on your site, but what I saw is impressive.

Thx for your tip! I tried to fix the problem with the eyebrow and upperlip in the texturing.
We are working now on the full animation and rendering of our movie. But check this still where i tried to fix the texture problems meanwhile.

I concur I think people are overly into photo realistic and it gets so old. - You are given the tools to create anything you want - why always the need for realism. Obviously look at Final Fantasy Advent Children nobody is going to argue the artistry is stunning - ever notice the characters don't have tongues or look realistic. They look real in the world they are in - I like everything just the way it is. Good work.

To be honest that picture is still way off form photorealism. Both characters have a bit elongated proportions in their faces, and the woman lpoks to have way too low forehead. (might also have some perspective modeling as orthographic syndrome as well hard to tell).

Shadrers still need a bit tweaking and so son, the lips look ok tough.

On photorealism. there seems to be going on a brain indoctrination here, what you see on films is often caled photorealism although it has nothing to do with photographic reality. Its like the film industry's conventions have hacked 90% of peoples brain t expect certain effects, even tough theres nothing physically correct about them.
