Network rendering Xsi 2

Hi, is the problem with network rendering fixed yet?
I can't remember what the problem is, only that network rendering under xsi 2 doesn't work..

What problem exactly are you referring to? There is/was a problem with the SPM server properly distributing licenses on WinNT. I'm not sure SoftImage made any announcment of it yet or posted the updated version of SPM server.

I never heard that network rendering under any version of XSI was broken. I was using it just today (with version 2.0) and rendering with over 50 slaves. It worked just fine.

maybe it was the license issue, but there was a problem,
maybe it was just us.. I'll try and do some network rendering with v2 in college and see if its working now.

ed are you using the batch universal, (or whatever the softimage commercial package is) or the little renderq 4 just released the other day?

I use the linux version of mental ray. (yes, I guess it's batch universal) I connect to it by putting the machine names into a text file (.rayhosts) in my user directory. Then when I draw a render region, render a preview or a final it uses all of the other machines to "help." The more machines I add, the faster it goes. (to a point) It makes doing High Res or Heavy GI/FG renders a dream.

wow, I was aware of the render job being "helped" but the interactive view also, this is almost too good!

network rendering setup has just moved to the top of my to do list.
