Well Wacom is offically releasing a new 21 inch cintiq as of this morning that looks to be replacing their previous version.

They say it will released late March or early April 2010.  Some nice looking upgrades including great pressure sensitivity and rear panel touch strips.  However, this releases comes right on the heels of a rumored multitouch that would be released in later summer 2010.  (Does that really mean winter 2010 ora later?)

However, as far as I can tell there have been no official press releases on the multitouch.

here is a thread on CGtalk about this (I can never log in over there....)
that includes these links for info:

so......whats the deal? All these unoffical rumors that claim to be backed up by industry sources, as well as footage of an actual mulittouch cintiq so seems like it is really coming, but when and for how much?

I had been assuming the mulittouch was going to replace the current 21 inch cintiq and cost the same.  However, with this latest release I am thinking the mulittouch is going to be a whole other and more expensive product.

So buy the new one now or wait an undeterminded amount of time for a touch screen that may or may not include a large cost increase......

Touch is not necessarily a good thing, its less precise and then it may interfere with the accuracy. For example a bamboo is touchable, even multi but its still not replacement for a intuos.

So they are not necessarily aiming at the same thing.

Either way, there's always going to be something new and revolutionary if you wait just 6 more months. Off course after that 6 months there's something even more revolutionary available, computer harware industry works that way. Food for thought.
