New midrange better than my old highend?

I'm looking to upgrade my 3d hardware. I am currently running a system with two video cards: an Oxygen RPM 64mb (for running Maya) and a Voodoo3 2000(to support my gaming habit and give my better 2d). I want to buy a new card to cover both purpses, but Maya is a priority. I would also like to stay under $500. I want to know if I would get better Maya performance with something like a Geforce 3 than my Oxygen RPM. I am also running Win2k and my Oxygen is a little qwirky. What would the best route be?

I think the gf3 is still not qualifyed for maya...some people run it, but I heard lot of differencies.So I would recommend something proved: for example a gf2ultra...or quadro...

What about patching a gf3 to work as a quadro? There's a lot of discussion about that and I wonder how it compares to the real thing. Right now I'm running a single P3 550 256mb on win2k. Would that work well on my system?

im running that softquadro on my geforce3 -gladiac 920...into a quadroDCC..havent had anyproblems...very stable, great card....the drivers should get better and release its full potential......its actually running better than my oxygen gvx1-pro i had a few months back,,,......i sent that back cause it wasnt worth 650 dollars..

The Alias|Wavefront site says they don't reccomend using gf3's with Maya4. If it's patched to be a Quadro does that fix the problems the g force cards supposedly have with Maya?

yes.
my herky works like a charm in whatever i throw at it.
the geforce cards are supposed to be a lot faster than teh gvx cards. ( i seen both running and i like the gf better.)

I agree.. used to have a gvx1 and then gvx1 pro, Atleast the gforce is worth the money better has some problems. If your livlyhood depends on using maya then go for a oxygen, one of the faster ones.
Now i just got my Wildcat II machine so... im pretty pleased for now!
