New model editor not responding to hotkeys

When I create this new modelEditor window, I was hoping to be able to use the existing hotkeys inside the window, but they dont seem to be working.  I was curious if there was a way to fix this.

For hotkeys to pass trough you must use a panel. Either your own panel type (scripted panel, its easy to promote any window code to be a panel) or use the existing panel type.

ONLY PANELS ARE REAL MEMBERS OF MAYA GUI. making windows is a easy way yout, for second class citizenship.
