I am runing Maya 6.0 still so that may be important.
I am trying to figure out the maya fur tools. I am trying to get a very short fuzzy fur. I started with the duckling preset shortened it, changed the tip and base color, and tweaked the clumpiness.
When I render in Mental Ray in the scene I need to have this in, the fur is bright white. I have tried changing the colors, specular sharpness, turning off ray tracing, and turning off final gather. None of those things seem to make a difference.
The only thing I have found that makes a difference is the light model on the fur. If I have the light model as ambient only it isn't white anymore but it is way too dark (Pretty much straight black). If I have specular and or diffuse with the ambient light then it glows bright white no matter what I do.
So anybody know how to get a nice super short fuz that works in mental ray?
