Newbie question --> TV video creation

I made with MAYA a TIFF sequense and made an AVI (PAL 576x428 25 fps) in combustion. What codec should I use for displaying this avi in television? Should I make other adjustments?

The question I need to ask you is what hardware are you using for playing out your file to tape?

You usually determine the type of file by the hardware used to play the signal out of the computer. Are you using Matrox/pinnacle/DPS/DV???

I have no hardware to play out my file. i was asked to make an animation (save it as avi)and put the file in a cd and send it (strange situation, don't ask!)
While I did a little search over the internet I read that If you want an animation to play on TV you must not compress your video with a codec. Is that right????

In this case, you may want to leave the .avi uncompressed (if it will fit on the CD).

Your associates can import the file into any production editing/compositing system they might have.

A CODEC (compressor/de-compressor) tells the playback device how to decode and play the file.

**very few (digital) systems can play back RAW or uncompressed video.

***All digital television (whether HD, satelite or digital cable) signals are highly compressed MPEG2 files using various CODEC's.

I dunno but isnt it better to use quicktimes than avis? I always thought so cuz arent avi's capped at a certain size?.....um as for codec, i wouldnt use one, maybe like an Avid dv codec or somethin....but i usually render Animation full quality.....im not saying what i do is right, but i always thought it was...

as far as I know (I read it somewhere over the internet) ter is a cap for avi which is 2GB but if you use avi v2.0 you have no problem

2GB file size limitations were present in both PC and MACs - for both AVI and QT.

"Higher-end" systems with uncompressed capability have not had this limitation for some time now. Avid and Discreet both wrote custom .avi drivers that super-ceeded the native 2GB file size limitation in Windows. I beleive Avid did the same thing on Macintosh for .qt

I beleive this limitation is no-longer an issue on either platform running W2K, XP or OSX.....
