No "mental ray" tab in "Create Render Node" :(

Brand New in Mental Ray.

I followed the steps: In Hypershade, select Create > Create New Render Node.

Then I saw a window for "Create Render Node". There supposed to have one tab called "Mental Ray", but I don't see the tab here.

The 4 tabs I have now are:
Materials, textures, Lights, Utilities.
The mental Ray tab is missing...

Why does this happen and how can I correct it?

Make sure Mental Ray PlugIn is loaded in preferences:plugin Manager.

If you're pre-Maya 6 you should also set an environment variable
MAYA_MRFM_SHOW_CUSTOM_SHADERS to 1

I'm using Maya 5...

Is mental ray's plugIn called "mayatomr.mll"? It is loaded.

Do I have to change the environment in maya 5? Just add that line in the Maya.env file, right? Thanks!

Usually you should add the variable in the system controll:system settings (at least if you're on windows)

I'm sure I saw some detailed instruction on this in the maya (mental ray) documentation...

Set the environment variable and it works!
(previously missed a "S" in the variable name )
