No Middle Mouse Button (2)

Hello, I just downloaded Maya Personal Learning Edition so I can model for Half-Life 2, and it says in the introduction videos that you press alt and click with the middle mouse button to pan the view. I don't have a middle mouse button, so is there another way of doing that?

Open you Hotkey Editor (Windows-> Settings/preferences-> hotkeys), go to 'navigation' find the one you need and assign whatever you feel convenient, like a button on the keyboard (if i'd have a two mouse button i'd probably assign alt+rmb+lmb, so that you could still use mouse, though you dont have three buttons...)

Does your mouse have a roller in the middle of the two mouse buttons? Almost every mouse made nowadays comes with one and most of the time you can actually press in or "click" the roller as if it were a middle button. If your mouse doesn't have a roller or if the roller doesn't click you can go to just about any store that sells general computer parts (even Target and Wal-Mart) and pick one up for around $5-10. I know buying new hardware isn't always the most convenient solution but you'll find that it makes navigation in the program a lot easier. Not to mention all the other pluses of having a roller on your mouse. It's easily worth the money and saves headaches of binding other inconvenient keys.

I did that. Thanks. For some reason I can click the mousewheel, but it wont do anything.

Buy a new mouse (with the cost of maya you can get 200 mouses). Or uninstall the intellimouse drivers
