Not Possible To Read Maya 2.0 Files In Maya 2008

I am trying to read an old projet (Maya 2.0) in Maya 2008 and it replies me

am trying to read an old projet (Maya 2.0) in Maya 2008 and it replies me file version no longer supported!!!!!!!!!!!
I knew that backward compatibility was not possible but here I am quite impressed !
How can I trust any future if I cannot read my old project ? Redoing everything ?

I tried to find some tools on Internet (MayaFileConverter for example), but it is worst, Maya says that it runs out of memory and it crashes.

Anyone a solution ?

Autodesk ?

A lot changed in the maya file format between 1.0 and 4.0. You just have to dig up an old copy of 2.0 or 3.0.

I dont think you need that old of a copy, i theink 7.0 will be fine but anyway you cant carry baggage of history with you forever. I mean try to open word documents form 1998 and youll see how well that goes.

Also if its a ma file its quite easy.

The idea is that they finally doropped support in 2008. So wehat they did was carry the baggage this far.

So anything you wish to carry alomng should allways be upggraded to newer systems as you go along.

They dropped support for the Maya 4.0 format in the most recent version so I wouldn't doubt the previous 3.0 format was dropped quite a few versions before that. So you might have to go back to 6.0 or 7.0
