Ok this has been happening quite often and it's really making me angry. I did some more 3d text logo stuff for a friend. I had to import the text from an .eps since Maya didn't want to do it by itself. I used the bevel plus tool to make some cool looking geometry out of the imported curves (eps file). Now I don't need the curves anymore so I erase them then delete by type.......history, then save the scene where I would like, then continue on applying some cool shaders to it.....saving here and there down the road. Now I'm done and did my render and all looks good, I save one more time then quit maya. Now.... next time I open that same scene it is blank..... nothing there...... geometry is all gone, no record of anything saved that i was working on....... all is lost............ Y? Where did it go, why didn't it save when I told it to save?
Your the second person to report of such a thing! Ive never actualy ever experienced this or seen anyone produce this BUG if you can call it such. A sthere are a bit too many variables for this not to happen.
Can you reporduce the effect, if not then it might be a personal blunder? Im not saying it is tough.
Firstof, if i were you id allways use the mayas incremantal save feature as it will make your life easier in the future.
I cant debug this for you because i cant reproduce the effect... MY maya saves every freaking time i save (the file ive been working on for the last 24 hours has beed saved to diske a whopping 125 times allready, without a single failure, also it saves whenever i dont save too)
There might be a some problem with your OS, file, maya or disk too wich isnt to say that this is not annoying?
Check that your file isnt marked as a read only file. (would happen if you copied a file form a cd to your disk, or allso may couldt directly write to a cd even f you wanted it to)
chek taht maya says its actualy saved soemthing in the script editor.
something like
// Result: Drive:/pathmumbojumbo/projects/default/scenes/test.mb //
It should report failure, only a newbie woulnt keep an eye up for warnings like that offcourse so youd miss it!
More info please!
PS. actuay delete by type hsitory wont erase the curves!
thanks for your reply, I was told deleting history would help this issue out, plus I have followed many tutorials that suggest that deleting history after object is the way you want it will help the computer performance. I also posted this message on another forum to get added help......... go here, for there are some people that also had my problem and talk about the deleting history............ http://www.digital-tutors.com/forums/showt...29734#post29734
Deleting history has nothing to do with saving not working!
Its about deleting history!
