There are several ways of doing it.
You could use Suface continuity Manager (SCM) .But this requires carefull palcements of points. Or you could use transparency maps (fading from the color to transparent)at the joints to give the illusion of seamless or
If your character is wearing something like shirt etc then you model them separately.

Hi, I have a big problem. I want to create a Character out of NURBS. I want to merge the single objects (arms, legs, body) together in one surface with merge surfaces. The problem is, I need four holes in the body for the extremities. How can I manage to create holes, that are at the side for the arms and at the bottom for the legs in Softimage 3.9?
