Nurbs Curve Help

My first post !

I am a brand new user to XSI (and Modeling) at that. I just started doing the Digital Tutor's Introductory to XSI. This is the one with the Space Motor Bike

I am stuck on one part.

During the totorial there is a part when he moves to model the first exhaust pipe on the left side; he starts out by showing the RIGHT SIDE view of the Rotoscopy Jpeg and mentions to use a :

Nurbs Curve

And then suddenly the lesson jumps to a line that was drawn (and then he REVOLVES this line around an AXIS... This part I get)

But I don't get exactly what tool was used; I tried using Draw Cubic by CV but it leaves these sorta Anchor Points at the beginning and end of the curve drawn; so when I goto EXTRUDE it leaves the end of the 'Pipe' out of whack and twisted..........

I hope I am asking (explaining this) correctly ?

Please help ?
