Nurbs vs polygon extrude

I am confused with extrude tool. I am extruding a CV or EP (I tried both) curve into a polygon. The settings are distance, surface degree is linear, curve range is complete, output geometry is polygon, quad type and tessellation is count standard fit (I tried all the other tessellation methods later)

When I extrude, the poly face adges are smoothed. But I don't want them to be smooth. I am extruding walls from these 1 degree curves.

When I change the output geometry to nurbs, the extruded faces are perfectly cornered...

Why is this auto smoothing happening when I extrude from a curve into a poly?

How about this?

Is it better to create nurbs surfaces while extruding from curves and then convert them to polygons?

If yes, then why would my initial method be not the best way?

Maya is like any other woman--sometimes she does things inexplicably. Don't question her, because she is smarter than you. Convert to polys after the extrude.

Actualy, if you choose the polygons mode in extrude i think maya is just doing internaly just that working on nurbs and then converting to polys.

Makes sense but after extruding it and even deleting the history, the poly still lookes smoothed...

So what does that mean?...

1. Is this a bug, or deficiency on Maya's part when extruding from a nurbs curve into a poly?

2. Is there any type of setting of workaround to this?

Any info would be much appreciated.

the polys are deriving normals from the nurbs surface when you do a convert...?

Try using [Create Polygon] tool to draw and extrude polygons:)

take your polygon object after you've converted it from Nurbs and sub object select edges. Select the edges you want hard and make them so.
