Hey guys. Well, I just wanted to know if anyone has messed with Nvidia Gelato (Mango) Maya plug in renderer yet. I have a quadrofx 3000 system but im currently getting the mobo upgraded so i havnt screwed with it yet. Any feedback anyone??
SECOND: Can someone please make me feel better about dishing out 1300 bucks on a quadrofx 3000 rather then a geforce card. Im an animation student at ILIA in chicago. Tony
Our tests show that overall, Gelato is 2-3 times faster than that other renderer. If you are finding any scenes that don't render at least twice as fast, I'd like you to contact me with more details. It could be a bug, a simple misunderstanding, or simply a scene that exercises parts of the renderer that aren't fully optimized yet. Please email me: lgritz at nvidia dot com.
Yeah but on what kind of computer setup? Aslo something other that makes me think twice about gelato is that i cant seem to find any procelist for how much id be expected to pay for a licence.
Performance has been very good on pretty much every computer I've tried -- from desktop with FX 3000 to my laptop (a Dell M60 with Quadro FX 700 Go). Your FX1000 should do very well. That's why I said, if you're not blown away by performance, it's something I'd like to look into.
You're right, our web site is lame in many ways, and one such way is that it's not easy to find pricing. The list price is $2750 per floating node (+525/year for support and all upgrades). There are substantial volume/facility discounts, rentals available, special bundles of Gelato + FX board, and educational discounts. Contact gelatosales at nvidia dot com for info.
You could atleast put up some of your benchmarked scenes and some actual data... since no matter wether or not theres a industry bechmark you should atleast show what you base your asuptions on.
But alteast when i use the demo version i dont se any spectacular results. Im still eveluarting tough but its not the only renderer i am evaluating at this point.
Also why the hell do you let market hype fill your pages. Its not like someone actualy would go and puchase gelato without testing first.
