Another problem: I have got a cube locate at the origin. The cube rotate angles are (x/y/z)=(0,0,0) the normal is (0,1,0) How can I derieve the object's normal from the object's rotation or is there any Maya Function that will do this?
when you say normal - you mean the constuction history and which axis the cube was created on? if so and you have not deleted construction history, type this: polyCube -q -ax pCube1
pCube1 is the name of your cube. if you wanted you could add a custom attribute to your cube transform node that could store the axis normals for use later. THis would require you to run the above command and then store those values into a variable (vector). Step 2 would be to create a custom attr on the cube (vector type too) and plug those values from step1 into the new attr. Now if you delete construction history you still have a record of which axis the cube was built on... yeah? maybe? Good luck.
