Online Docs Problem

I'm having trouble getting the online documentation to work for XSI. Whenever I try to load them up, I get a javascript error and nothing comes up except the little logo. This happens on both the Experience CD and the full retail version, on multiple computers.

Any help?

Are you using Internet Explorer 6?

Java and Javascript are two entirely different technologies. The encountered errors are either due to security setting in the browser or the files have been moved/renamed/deleted. Reinstall the documentation and everything should be fine.

The quick check is to navigate the docs folder of your softimage installation and look for a file called index.html or _start.html. If you can find any of these files, then re-install the documentation and everything should be fine.

See, that's what I thought. The only problem is, for example, that on the XSI Experience CD you never install the Docs... it just takes you to them on the CD. I get the same error message when I try to use the installed version of the docs on my hard drive from the retail version:

"exception:java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.webworks.help.WW..." then the message trails off of the frame.

Any ideas? I installed the Java Virtual Machine, but that didn't help.

I am using IE6 witho no problems at all.
If you cannot use the docs I suggest you install both the latest version of Windows Scripting Host and Java Virtual Machine (both from Microsoft site). This should clear your problems.
ALso check your security settings - set to Medium level security.
BTW - IE6 suports perfectly Java, it's just that you have to separately install it -it's not in the main installer (same as it is in XP I guess)

Well I can't even find Windows Scripting Host or whatever it is to download it.

The thing is, this happens on every computer I try to load the Docs on, not just this one. I don't understand it! It shouldn't be this hard to get the documentation to work. I can't believe no one else is having this problem... I must be doing something horribly wrong and I can't figure it out.

I know Java is working because it is throwing an exception saying it can't find some component (com.webworks.help.WWHelp).

I use the Maya manuals with no problem. What's the deal?

The problem with the docs is that they are actually registered in the WindowsRegistry (bekieve it or not) and thay are like software itself. But you're right - it is weird that you're having a problem like this...
