Open Expressions In My Text Editor

hi there!

I'm trying to open expressions in my text editor (textpad), so I change my preferences, and here's the warning message

// Warning: ExpressionEditor: can not open C:/DOCUME~1/nicolad/IMPOST~1/Temp/particleShape1.creation.TXT.BAT

and obiously no textpad nor expression editor.

I check for those file, and the file exists, but I cannot open it also with window explorer. it seems to be locked.

does anybody know what could be the problem?

if its not in the system path off course yes.

I think that the problem is windows, I cannot open the .bat file, it seems to be locked, even when I close maya.

its because your editor got crashed and the bat is still running.

What may does is a old trick make a batch file that calls the editor, whan you exit the editor it returns to the bat to execute last line which gets passed to maya. Now if your editor crashes without a error code the bat will live forever. its not inside maya.

Now if theres a error in your settings it will keep doin this try changing the external editor to notepad. Temporarily. If you want to see what sin the file try killing the bat execution.

no, it's not for that reason.

I've chenged the editor to notepad but the problem remains.

I also try to shutdown and turn on the pc, the bat files are still locked...and the bat isn't running for sure...

this is really a strange thing...

Yes appears that in winXP, hand noticed BTW, file locks are part of the disk system so they are president if some crash occurs they can stay locked. (not allways sometimes) the locking is part of the properties fo the file you should be able to take it of by making the file writable again in the security tab (you may find its not there if your not in a domain), unless the admin has disabled this in wich acse you msut do it manually on the cmd if not then ist truly locked on acces list in wich case you need to work the windows api or get omne extra utility.

Amway right click on the file and try to edit its properties, look for its flags and chek to see what operator has disk permissions to it.

Anyway i couldn't repeat this with maya but i can do it otherwise not that i like todo testing like this
