OT: Photoshop scripting forums?

I am about to finally get into doing some scripting in Photoshop. Since these boards are a cornerstone of my MEL efforts, I was wondering if anyone knew of any similar forums specifically relating to PS scripting.

The actions in PS aren't very sophisticated.. you can record a series of functions and run them over a folder of images.

You're talking about actions and batch actions gmask. Jeff is talking about scripting. You can now script photoshop (since version 7) using JavaScript and Visual Basic.

I'm going to eventually look into this too Jeff so if you find out could you post your findings here. ta.

Huh.. didn't know that.. so using the MEL system command you can execute either visual basic or javascript to manipulate files in PS?

Not sure yet what the power of PS scripting is. I am a bit spoiled by MEL's integration, so I have concerns over what could be done with scripting functionality slapped into the seven release of a product. The first thing I will be trying to do do is write a customizable hotkey system, so I will soon figure out how much UI access I have. If PS scripting is nothing more than a fancy way to do actions with a little more file system access, then it will all be a big bust.

I had a look yesterday and I got the impression the new scripting was basically "super-actions" using logical operators and variables, rather than the whole photoshop UI and it's internal mechanisms laid bare for tinkering with..

it'll still be useful to (finally) be able to write proper actions but I think we should be prepared to be disappointed... I hope I'm wrong though..

You can read the official scripting manual here:

Yeah, after getting about half way through the docs, I am getting the same impression.

Though it does have some debugging tools which are nice, not having a listener like the script window makes it a lot harder to learn.
