Outliner problem - Warning: Can't use Outliner

Hi everyone, my first, but probably not last post.
I'm having problems with the outliner, well actually, the problem is to get it to appear.
Since I'm quite new to Maya, I have no idea what it means, and what to do about it, when it says: Warning: Can't use Outliner. Panel is torn off.

Someone with a solution?

Oh, never mind now.
A nice clean computer restart fixed everything (of course)

Well, if someone experience the same thing, you know what to do now.

its cause you, funnily enuf, already have your outliner torn off in a seperate window. eithre you just flip to or maximise that window and continue using it there, or kill it, then pop it ito the pannel. it is kinda shite behaviour, i wish (at least 90% of the time) it would just kill the window and dump it into your pannel. you could have a second outliner if you wanted to, probably do this by interface through the panel editor.

Well now I have the same problem again but I really don't have the outliner opened. If I select windows -> outliner nothing happens, not even an error message.

And restarting won't help this time. It works fine when I have a new scene, but when I load the one I'm working on it's gone and won't show itself.

Stupid me...

I recently got a 21" TFT monitor, a nice upgrade from my 19" CRT. But 2 days ago I wanted to test dual display, so I connected the 19" and tested the extended desktop by moving some of the tools to the 19" screen.
But because of desk space problems, I chose not to keep it, and disconnected it without putting the tools back to the primary screen. No wonder I haven't been able to see the outliner when it has opened up on another, nonexistent, screen. =D

Do I get the week's dummy-award now? =)

That was actually my first guess.
Did you try looking somewhere that does not exist?

If it's a nVidia it should.
It's the nView software which follows with the detonator drivers.

yuh, i gotta a combo card setup tho, one nVid agp, one old school PCI. dont want to use nView either. bah, i can live w it! thanks for your note tho!
