how good is an oxygen gvx1? for rendering, etc eventually i'll be doing animations.

Video cards are irrelevant for rendering, they only make a difference for manipulating. And honestly, the only reason to use the Oxygen GVX1 cards is if you were gonna use the PCI versions and had say... some obscure need for 4 monitors at 1280x1024. But the card itself is nothing spectaculary and is on par with a Geforce 2 MX (not bad for a card released in 99', but still dismal).

Again, avoid the AGP version if you get one, you're better off leaving the AGP slot for a card that you can use for say... Doom 3.

Correction - Video cards are irrelevant for Software Rendering. Some aspects of Hardware Rendering are very card-related. For example, the GVX1 will write out a hardware Alpha, which is very convenient in some cases.

The Oxygen family is a good line of cards, and the drivers are extremely stable.

For 3D apps, the GVX1 is far superior to the GF2MX.

Unfortunately, for 99% of the purposes of most people, you can't justify spending $300 for a GVX1 Agp, nevermind $500 for a PCI, when you can spend $50 and buy a Geforce MX which will get your ass around just the same

I have been using a oxygen gvx1 for a couple of years now with a p3 650ish proc.

I must say for all major 3d apps its rock solid...2d performance seems a little tired....but

After seeing dynamics played back at amazing speed on a friends p4 2000 with gaiward geforce ti500...i think its time for me to spend out on a new PC O_o.
my friend was using the standard drivers as well, not the quadro patch thingy, and all seemed to work fine.

..also on a less important point..the oxygen is utterly useless for playing games, good enough for a spot of counterstrike though

I have a GVX-1 Pro now and used a GVX-1 for a few years and loved them both. Everyone I know who uses 3Dlabs cards seems to have high regard for them and like the last post said-they are rock solid and have great updates and support. I'm still leary of nvidia cards-have had some go bad in my department and spotty performance. 3DLabs just got bought by Creative Labs- don't know if this is good or not... Should give them more cash to work with if that's CL's agenda.
