Parenting and groups

I have no idea what I'm doing wrong but if someone can point it out to me I'd be much obliged. Whenever I parent objects together, then mofe them they split apart. I've tried grouping instead but get worse results (some of the objects don't even bother moving). I've put all the pivot points in the same place. Basically it's a mixture of lofted surfaces and polygons. Is there any way that I can make it just one object. Sorry if this is s bit muddled, but I'm new to Maya and used to latex puppets, and they tend to do as they're told. Thanks

Grouping or parenting doesent exclude yu from moving the objects sunder the another one so if you select a child you cas still move it but if you select the parent and move it the child will also move.

now goups can be pesky at first glace because you seemingly cant select them but select any child and press up arrow and the group/parent is selected (left right moves to next sibling and down to children!)

childern can have seperate pivots! no matter the transforms ar in a sense summed together!

You might have some construction history causing a double transformation. Are the curves that you used to create the lofts in the group? If so, delete them or move them out of the group and see what happens.

Or unparent them if you aren't using groups.

good luck,
