my animation seems to have a mind of its own...
i've got a mesh animated along a path, there are no random parameters anywhere, but the final orientation of the thing changes all the time ... what the???

changes to align itself to the path or randomly?
keeping in mind that really tight curves can cause your object to flip rapidly...
there is a check box to disable tangency.... that will prevent it trying orient itself to the path.
the other is up vector, this is another arbitrary point you can tell your mesh to face..... main problem there is when it crosses a plane perpendicular to to its up vector it flips, so solve that you just have to animate the up vector to be in a logical helpful position all the time...
other than that check your operators, quick stretch / softbodys etc can do some weird things if not managed. um..... also check the meshes constraints...... they could confuse issues also.
excellent,
what are you still working on eh?
thank you for your help teanau...
it changes every time i play it even when i haven't touched a thing. the only parameter that is animated is the path percentage.
i'm not 100% clear on what the 'affected by orientation/scale' option is all about.. am i correct in thinking it has no bearing if the mesh has no hierarchical links?
the mesh isnt a soft body and its frozen.
maybe i'll try tangency off and play with the up vector...
ohh, just playing around a bit, holidays should be spent outdoors i guess but i seem to have become unwholesomely addicted...
