Perspective projection of a texture

As usual, one can project a texture on an object, but this
projection is orthographic. Is there a way to project
a texture with perspective?
I thought about writing a simple raytacer in MEL(camera-backplane) to determine the color using the backplane and then map it on the object.

Any other ideas?

if your object is a mesh type,
you can use the
"texture/create uvs based on camera" command located in "edit polygon "menu

Hi,
While creating your texture, create it as as projection.
Than, change its projection type to perspective and select the camera for projection...

YES!, this is exactly what I need, the help system
even describes the special fx I wanna do.

Thank you, next time I type in my problem to the help
system, I just did not expected Maya to have a
perspective projection.....
