Photoshop .PIC reader?

Is there a plugin for Photoshop that allows it to read Softimage .PIC files? I keep having to convert my renders to something else in the FX Tree to open them in Photoshop. I need the Z-depth info, that's why I'm rendering .PIC files... but I don't necessarily need that info when I preview in Photoshop.

This is what you're looking for:

Scroll down until you find Photoshop Softimage Pic Image Reader v1.1.
Place the file (soft.8bi) into: C:Program FilesAdobePhotoshop 6.0Plug-InsFile Formats.

In Photoshop 7 the PIC format plug-in is now included with the software.

BTW: You can output different formats than PIC from XSI. Just check the Render Options, in the Output tab....

Thanks a lot, I didn't realize .PIC was included with 7. I guess it's in the extras on the CD.

Yeah, I know XSI can render many formats, but I need the .Zpics for compositing. I just do quick tests in Photoshop and sometimes a little painting.

Hmm maybe I misunderstood your post, but are you saying that you want to import Zpics into Photoshop?

If this is the case and you succeed doing so I'd be very curious to know how you did, because zpics is a format that normally can't be understood by Photoshop.....

No, no. Just .PICs. I don't use Photoshop for compositing, I use After Effects. But right now I am doing a lot of print work and when my boss wants to see stuff I open it in Photoshop. It's nice to be able to then paint on that image and take notes so I can use it as a reference.

Previously I had to convert these images to another format to view it in Photoshop instead of After Effects.

Have you tried loading Softimage .pic-files into Photoshop 7 yourself?
I just installed it on a pc and a mac, and I wasn't able to do that. There's nothing under import, and if I try using open, it can't see the .pic-files. In the pull-down menu it doesn't say softimage anywhere.
I'm familiar with the downloadable plug-in from this site, but it can't find anything in default Photoshop 7.
