Howdy,
Some time in the next 2 weeks, I'll become the proud owner of Maya 4.5 for linux, and a
tasty new SMP workstation.
I've noticed that that list of plugins and scripts available for, and compatable with, linux
is dispropotionately short compared to the list of available plugins and scripts for the
Windows version.
I have quite a bit of programming experience (none with the maya api), in; C, C++, PHP,
and more recently Perl. I have looked at the maya api documentation, and found it to be
a well documented and clean api that shouldn't take alot of time getting to grips with.
Getting to the point; I'd like to offer my help, free of charge, in porting (and/or testing) Maya
plugins and scripts to Linux so they are available to myself, and other Maya for Linux users to
use.
Posting this in the Linux forum obviously won't get this done, but I'd like to hear what other
Linux users think, and perhaps hear from other people about their experiences with maya
plugin porting, and issues they may have encountered. I'd also be interested to hear some
feedback about the best way to go about approaching the owners of plugins to offer to port
their software (either commercial or private).
Regards,
- Gef
