poly Reduction

Hi every Body!!

I have maya 6 for OSX,
I like to know if someone can help me with this!...
I'm working in Architectural visualization and I'm importing my model from ArchiCAD in 3DS format. There is a plugin for maya on windows (PolyReducePlanar.mll) that eliminates all the triangulation in co-planar polygons, but the plugin does not work for OSX someone can help me?? I need to reduce all the triangulation generated by ArchiCAD when I saved in 3DS format.

It is possible to save the maya plugin (PC format) in MAC format to load it in my MAC? How can I do that?

Tnx for all the help that you can give me!

I imagine the plug in would need to be recompiled for Mac. You'll need to talk to whoever wrote the plugin and see if they can either do that for you or are willing to give you the source code so you can recompile it yourself.

Hope this helps.

I ever thought MEL would be the same on every platform!
How can you recompile it?

AH DAMN... you are talking about a mll. A Plugin. I'm sorry..

yea of course.. if its programmed and compiled for PC.. you have to recompile for mac.

ok!
but what I have to do to get that? I understand that I need to recompile the plugin, but what program or utility i need to do it? and how can I do it?

... I'm new with this, so TNX! again for your help.

To compile a program you need a compiler. Yeah, I know, that sounds self-evident, but stick with me. Maya plugins are written in a flavor of C/C++ so you'll need a C compiler. What this compiler does is take the human-readable programming code and turn it into a machine-readable binary file.

I don't have a lot of experience in that myself but seeing as how MacOSX is unix there should be some included with the install I'd think, like gcc or something. Codewarrior is also a popular Mac compiler. Or was when I was learning C a couple years ago.

Hope this helps.
