Polygon problem?

Ok, I put up a post earlier concerning a polysmooth problem, now I know what the problem is, but I need to solve it.

Basically I combined several poly objects and merged vertices. However, I never merged edges. So I still have the borders of the seperate objects. I cant merge those borders anymore, cause its already one edge. Its a border edge and not just a normal edge. So when I smooth the object, its all jagged. Can this be solved or do I have to remodel the objects and merge edges after I have combined them???

Please help, its fairly urgent.
Thanks.

you could use a hack and delete one row of faces on one side of the border edge, and then use the append to poly tool to recreate the row.

Are you sure the verticies actually welded? When The verticies are on top of each other and you goto pick them, maya will pick both at the same time. Try doing a merge edges or merge vertex with the threshold on like .1 or .01 instead of 0.

not sure of the other post you refer to, but it sounds like you've generated some non-manifold geometry (see examples in docs if your not familiar)...perhaps as simple as the vertex-connected faces having oposing normals? if you continue to have problems, extract relevent/example areas about this seam and ppl can have a prod.

You're a king. Thanks alot. All I needed to do was just do a cleanup, with the non-manifold geometry setting. I cant believe it was that simple.

Thanks again!!
