Preview Plane Not Working Below Origin

Hi all,

So i'm not sure if theres some obvious answer i should know about. But heres the problem:

I have an ocean with a preview plane that is -100 units below orgin on the Y translate. grouping and moving down the preview plane will show me the waves, But.. when i add a wake to it, the wake doesn't render. If i move everything back to origin, the preview plane will show the wake.

Is there something i'm supposed to know to get this working? i've asked my supervisors and they're not sure either.. so i'm hoping this isn't just a newbie mistake. =p

any thoughts would be great.

I encountered this and I recall taking the "easy" way out and just raising everything else to where I needed it but there must be a way to do it.

hehe yeah dont quite have that option. So far i'm just working at orgin and dropping everything back down when i think its ready to render. Its just a hassle working this way.

If you unlock the ytranslate on the ocean preview plane you can move it down in Y along with the ocean surface, the wake fluid and emitter. It will render OK but the wake will not show up on the previewplane (this is because the preview plane is always querying the wake fluid with a y of zero). You can workaround this problem, however, by scaling up the wake fluid in Y (scaleY = 200 or so) so that it still intersects the zero y plane.

I have a similiar problem. The ocean plane is 160 units below the origin. Now, when I add boats to the ocean, they just move upwards until they reach zero in Y, then they float as they should, but 160 units too far up...

any ideas?

I think is should work if you group the locator node (created when you did make boat) then transform the group -160 in y. You may need to adjust your boat position at the start frame after doing this, but keep the group locked at -160.
