I am making a tree for my demo reel. I modeled the trunk and use transparency maps on a grid to fake branches. Then I instanciate the branches and rotate them arround to create some kind of randomness. However, I get this weird "incomplete transparency" thing going all over my grids. I don't know why, since all of my branches looks right when I look through them one by one. But when I put them together (crossing, overlaping, cutting through each other), I get some sharp, straight darkness that looks exactly like the edge of my grids! I did not have any shadow options turned on in the scene, so those black edges cannot be shadows.
I tried other texture files, but they don't seem to make any difference. Would anyone who is experienced in making trees tell me what's wrong with my tree? I do not mind redoing the whole thing if your way works.
