Problem Using 32 Bit Image In Shake

hi

i m rendered one diffuse and z depth pass using maya, and set the image depth to RGBA (half)4X32 bit. if i open in that image in imf_disp.exe (image viewer) i can view the images (i cant view z_depth coz imf_disp doesnt support view of z_depth). but when i open these images in shake, it doesnt show any thing, not the diffuse and also not the zdepth. now my question is how can i composite the image using shake.

thanks

What file format are your images? .exr??

Tim Walker

i rendered tiff (uncompressed), and also tried tga,

Taga's can only do 8bit so thats probably why they didn't work.

Try maybe rendering .iff images or maybe even a sequence of .exr's.

thanx for the reply, i tried exr format, i can open the image in shake, its working with color and alpha, but i cant view the z-depth in that. and if u can explain how to extract the data from exr image, and also how to render the image in maya ( i mean how to tell the computer to render motion vector, u, v ect data to that exr image)
thanks

thanx for the tutorial, but this i know how to add the zdepth in shake, but its working with the 8 bit image only, i cant work the 32 bit image..

That tutorial covers what you need to do. You have to remap the range of the zdepth because maya by default writes it in the -1 to distance from camera range which you can't see. This is the same thing the "view maya z" macro does.

-1/distance.

But incidenttaly maya only writes out zdepth in iff files no matter what, even if you specify tif as source (havent tested maya 6 open exr tough). And no matter what depth the iff is the z i allways flowating point!! Offocurs eyou nee dto specify maya to render z depthin firstplace.
