One can extend this smooth value well beyond 0.999 by scaling object up freeze and scale object down without freeze. But basically you just wan to enable micropoly teseelation for mentalray edge approximation.
So if you scale up by 1000 freeze scale down to 0.001 its as if you set the value to 0.999999
In the later picture the trim overlaps the actual surface slightly. But just use the approximation editor it fixes this all.
Anyway i prwfeer nowdays to use parabolic rounding instead of rounds since it actualy makes amuch better results in c3 continuity
