Problem with selections

I have just recently been working on a project in combustion and I ran across a problem using the selections for the applied effect. I was using the discreet color correcter. I made the selections then applied the effect. Now it keeps making selections for every effect layer that I apply after awards. How do I fix that do I a have to split the layers or is their a way to just apply it to the layer without effecting any of the effects I apply afterwards? the selection I was making was her face and I was using the color corrector to desaturate and set the color to a blue Now I want to add a levels adjustment without it bieng masked by the selections,
