Hi, I'm pretty new in maya and I am trying to batch render a png sequence using mental ray. It does render, but I am unable to open it in other programs such as Photoshop and After Effects.
I get the following warning when I'm rendering the current frame: Warning: (Mayatomr. Export) Maya image format not supported, using iff instead.
Does anybody have a clue what the problem might be, and how to fix it?
This is strange because png is suppose to be supported by mental ray... see the supported image format table in the docs: file:///C:/Program Files/Alias/Maya8.0/docs/Maya8.0/en_US/General/Supported_image_formats_rendering.html
But the message is quite self-explanitory, use a format that mental ray likes better, like iff.
You could use TGA as well wich is a good 8bit image format, but Iff will give you a nice non-destructive compression (RLE compression) compared to PNG wihch is doing a destructive compression like jpg.
You should always render a a non-compressed format (TGA, TIF, etc) or use format that support non-destructive compression like iff, openExr.

Nope ist not destructive and its better than the rla, tga has.
anyway mayas older than 7 dontrender pngs. Nwow the reason might be that yoru actualy havinga a bad path variable so your batch is instantiating a older maya process.

If you get the files with png extension after this error that would probably mean that the extension is wrong (mental ray renders iff but it makes the extension png) So u can open this probably as iff. I know this is a bit stupid but it is worth a check if there's a chance u wont have to render the frames again. Just try renameing the files to something.iff instead of something.png Otherwise use iff so u dont have to rename the files lol but i think that is clear.
