Hi I need some advice on how to get my computer to recognize and use my second processor. I tried pulling it and reseated it and when I do this it said that it had finished installing new hardware. However, I'm only getting the one listed in my control panel and in my task manager. I was going to try the second one out in the first slot, but it seems that you cann' install it there cause the screws would be backwards. Any sugestions on how to get it to recognize and use this second processor?
I don't no exactly but after installing the second cpu on my sgi 320 I had to reinstall winNT. I can imagine that this is a common procedure.hope this helps

yeah he is right i think theres a different kernel that gets installed for single or dual processor check when NT 4 starts up itll say in it which kernel it is (1 processor or 2 processor)
If you ad another processor to an NT system.. you must fully wipe out the system and re-install it. This would be a good time to go and get the WIN 2000 upgrade . Since you gotta deal with a reinstall anyway.

You "DO NOT" have to reinstall the entire NT sytem in order to get the 2nd processor working.Go to this site and you'll be able to find some accurate info on how to get the system operating with the 2nd cpu without reinstalling the entire sytem. I've seen this question answered wrong way too many times.

Correct, it can be fixed by swapping in the SMP kernel.
