Proxy'z ???

Hi,

quick question i'm comping very large frame sizes 4K so the ability to use proxy is saving my life and precious machine.. when i render out a small test quicktime is Combustion using the proxy i've set or does it automatically switch to the hi-rez frames?

The answer is NO, Combustion will NOT "automatically" switch back to your Hi-res footage. combustion always uses the low-res proxies to speed up your work.... Combustion wants YOU to tell it when to switch back to the high-res footage.........
To switch back to the full resolution footage, simply go to your Workspace panel, select the Footage operator for the footage you want to replace. The Footage Controls panel appears: Select Main from the Toggle Footage list to the left of the footage filename. The system replaces the low-resolution footage with the original, high-resolution footage.
Then, you render your output as you normally would.

thanks for the reply but i think i figured it out afterall. I'm using Combustion version 2.01 so maybe they have changed around the whole proxy issue with the version you are using. i did a simpe little test to see how combustion handles proxy footage, basically i have a 4096 x 3002 hi- rez frame and i created an eighth resolution proxy of that so it came down to 512x386. and its clealy visible the degration of the image of a 4K composition frame and a 512pixel image proxy beign stretched to fill it. Set on preview or draft or medium u can notice that combustion is using the proxy image. Upon setitng it to Best, it seems that Combustion swtichs the proxy image to the full - rez version, As the image becomes very clear and clearly its impossible for the 512 pixel image to look that crisp at a 4K frame. So i guess when i go to render my final output and i have my setitng set to Best combustion uses the full hi -rez frame automatically, anything set lower to that and combustion uses the proxy. Anyways let me know if you come across the same results.

Actually, combustion always worked this way, both v1 and v2. If you set proxies in the footage operator, then set the output popup to "Main", switching between the quality settings will automatically switch between using a defined proxy and using the full-res imagery. This was done so that you wouldn't have to go and switch every clip to turn on/off proxies every time. A lot of people missed this feature and assumed you had to set proxies manually in every case when rendering.

Best and Preview automatically use full res, as long as you don't override this behavior by setting the footage switches to "Proxy" instead of "Main". Medium and Draft use proxies by default.

combustion v2 fixed a few bugs in this area, but the general behavior is the same.
