Psd Network Size Greater Than 2048?

Does anyone know of a way to create a PSD Network (in Maya 2008: UV Texture Editor -> Image -> Create PSD Network...) that's larger than 2048x2048? I'd like to go up to 4096x4096.

While searching for an answer, I've seen this question asked many times on other sites, but it always goes unanswered. I'm hoping that doesn't mean it's not possible. I love the workflow when using PSD Networks. It'd be a shame to have to go back to UV Snapshots again.

Well i dont really see why not, as psd networks allwats get converted to iff files anyways. Tough the external tool that does the pdf condensing might disagree with me.

Anyway no biggie you can always ask photo shop to do this for you, as automatic and 10 times more flexibly. (needless to say i dont use make psd network, as psd files have a tendecy to crap the work flow at later stages)

You can do the exact same functionality even without psd networks (hell you can even put teh functionality to photo shop or even cram photo shop inside maya). The main problem with psd networks is the slight limitation of the psd format itself.

Anyway the point is you really need TD on your team.

ok do this:

copy /scripts/others/photoShopPaintTex.mel over to your ser scripts directory (this is agood habit to not change factory scripts just copies you end up using)

search for 2048 then change the two -maxValue to 4096 and -fieldMaxValue also (they are near that line, maybe while your at it put the value to 8192 for future need)

Then save it

restart maya, thats it, done.

I'm curious, would you mind elaborating on what you mean by "psd files have a tendecy to crap the work flow at later stages?" As in, how do they tend to screw up the work flow?

On a related note, are you aware of any reason why using 4096x4096 psd networks would be a problem? I'm assuming Autodesk limited the default maximum size to 2048x2048 for a good reason?

And as for a TD... well, if it wasn't obvious, I'm just an individual on this end, not part of a company. Over the last three months, I've kind of had to teach myself Maya and 3d production in general, and so this forum has in many ways been my TD.

Well in my experience it craps up atleast when the user does somethings esoteric in photo shop or you need some wierd chanel field/effect stuff done.

But mostly when you send thing to the farm, or working with them overf a slow cmd conection when having individual files is better. (mind you having 10 files is as easy to do in photoshop, theres nothing to say photoshop cant automatically show you those 10 fies the same way as now)

So its more a question of why bundle things into on e file if 10+ files accomplishes the same thing, you can allways make the folder react like the base file for the user.

No matter the world is about connecting with people who can take the time to fix your problems. Everyone needs a number of peopleto turn to. And im afraid im too busy and thus slow to ding on general basis , but basically you want someone to talk to in person. Besides i refuse do things that require significant work because i expect to be paid for that kind of stuff.
