Python Guides

Since there is now this shiny new forum, I figured we may as well use it.

Like many other people here I have a mel background and am wanting to expand my maya scripting/api possiblities with python. While the new maya docs give some good mayacentric examples, I was wondering what people might recommend as a good book/link which would provide an overall introduction to python as there are hundreds out there....
thanks

PS however when doing python you have no constaints but your still in a Maya centric environment, so just because you can does not means you shouldn't For example python event passing nice and spiffy. But wont work halfo of the time in maya.

So by knowing much python and little maya you can shoot yourself in the leg BIGTIME, so its like walking with a loaded gun in your jeans without safety on.
