If I select a vertex color set from the color set editor and click the Modify button, I get a polyColorMod node that allows me to adjust the HSV and RGBA channels of the vertex color set. However, whenever I apply a polyColorMod, it immediately applies a certain level of unwanted contrast.

To see, just create a poly sphere, a directional light, and an ambient light, Prelight with Maya software, default settings. Open the color set editor, choose the color set, click Modify. You'll notice that the color set immediately gets some contrast applied to it...

does anyone know if this is the intended behavior or a bug?

i found the source of my problem.
the polyColorMod default intensity scale is a linear graph from 0 to 1, which alters the contrast a little. Setting the graph to flat intesity of 1 fixes my issue.

Can anyone suggest a good website or tutorial for this topic? Thanks in advance for your response.
