Raid, Raptor, Or Singles Advice

Hi,

Trying to figure out best solution.

Box will primarily function as standalone workstation for 3D modelling/simulation/rendering. This is not a video editng box.

Dont have a lot to spend.

options:

1. 1x 150GB Raptor, 1x bulk storage
2. 2x ~400GB in a RAID configuration
3. 2x ~400GB, separate one for working and one to render out to (source, target config), and in time an independent drive for OS/working.

What will give best performance for the stated tasks? Dont consider redundancy, or reliability. Regular, O/N backups will be implemented ...just thinking about performance. Might it even be negligible between these setups? This isnt a server, this isnt a video editing box. Anybody with working experience.

yep, had a look at that article. I was thinking in an application to a specific work environment. bah, ill just spend a few months with two single drives, then scrub and raid them, note the differences (if it delivers a boost, i can bask momentarily in free upgrade bliss).
