Read unopened scene

Hi,
Is it possible to read unopened maya files and extract the informations from scriptEditor? For Example. i need to export all the shaders from maya located in local drive without opening that particular file.

You'll want to look up fopen, fclose, fread, fwrite commands that are provided in the Maya documentation.

i went through maya documentation but could not able to get the actual outcomes. i found it limit of 1024 bytes on strings as well as format should also be ma. Can u please elaborate with examples. It would be grateful for your further suggestion and coperation.

what you want to be looking into is the "-prompt" flag in the command line. This command essential opens the maya file without the GUI and allows you to run mel commands. While it is still technically opening the file, it is extremely fast because it does not have to load anything related to the intereface.
