Hello, I was wondering if anyone could suggest what size of memory would be more than enough but not too much to run Maya smoothly on either a mac or pc platform. thanks!
I'd suggest anywhere from 1 GB of Dual Channel performance RAM to 2 GB per system. If you're considering the x86 platform for Windows or Linux and will be building your system then consider purchasing OCZ RAM. Otherwise you can find several good distributors that will offer you choices of either Windows or Linux preinstalled such as http://www.gamepc.com/index.asp , http://www.go-l.com/store/index.htm , HP, IBM, etc.
go-l.com
isnt that a fake? I read various reviews from people that never got a reply when ordering a computer from L Store.
Does anybody actually have one of those at home, especially the laptops? The configuration of those machines seems impossible (sizewise and technically)
No the company is not fake, just new to the global market. If you check the news page on their site you'll see some of the proposed systems to come out later this year or early 2005. I suppose some of the delays are due to waiting on Intel and AMD to produce the chips such as their dual core processors and Intel deciding to cancel producion on a 4 GHz Pentium 4. So because of this Liebermann is delaying products such as the Hollywood Gold Express. Maybe they can overclock the processor such as Alienware did with their ALX system but I doubt they could squeeze liquid cooling into a laptop with out making it bulky. There were also delays caused by Microsoft (doesn't shock anyone..lol) and possibly reason why they are going to distribute their in house Linux distribution called L-OS as an option for consumers. Concerning L-OS I prefer for a distributor to offer a well known product such as Windows XP Pro, REHL or Novell SLP. This would of been a better decision than trying to create their own Linux distribution like Apple has done with OSX. Even though there's nothing stopping a consumer from installing their own distribution I don't understand Liebermann spending resources trying to create their own Linux distribution when there's popular distributions already well tested.
As for the hardware a lot of the systems they currently offer are available through other companies under differant brand names so at least it keeps things competitive for consumers. For example the Hollywood Gold Express is remarkably similar to GamePC model GPN-PCIE here ( http://www.gamepc.com/shop/systemfamily.asp?family=noteb5http://www.gamepc.com/shop/systemfamily.asp?family=noteb5 ). When I last did a price comparison on workstations, desktops and laptops GamePC offers better prices than most distributors. Also, offering the consumer the choice between Windows XP Professional and SuSE Linux Professional is a nice option. Specially considering Novell offers both 32 and 64 bit versions of SuSE Linux Professional unlike Microsoft that is still developing Windows XP 64 bit.
Interesting.
Just letting people know: Myself and two friends both decided to buy one of their 16" laptops about a year or so ago, we never received a reply or a confirmation email, not even after trying to contact them serveral times.
To us it just seemed - especially after reading about several "fake" discussions online - that they must either be selling a big bunch of products they simply cant deliver (plus very bad, literally NO customer service) or they are completley fake.
my experience, my reality ... Just warning you guys
I believe you're referring to Liebermann which I can confirm having received email replies from. Though as I commented there are other more competitive distributors such as GamePC which will keep some cash in your bank account.
I noticed what hurts some companies is not choosing an appropriate business title. When I first came across GamePC I thought they only offered desktops but found they also offer workstations, rack servers and DCC graphics cards. There systems also put some distributors such as Apple to shame when comparing not only your options available but the over all cost savings.
I will look into GamePC as I am planing on purchasing a workstation in the next few months.
And yes, I refered to Lieberman. If you do a bit of a google you will find various discussions about the legitimacy of that "company" ...
I also know people in forums that claim to have received products from lieberman, but that is just one part of the story.
My understanding is that they offer systems that possibly cant be build (16inch laptop, very small but with 3 physical harddrives, 2 dvd/cd drives, 2 batteries etc.) to get ATTENTION and then only really sell the "smaller" products
