Render Window Blank Until Complete

great minds of maya land, question for you. i have noticed that when i execute a complex render from within maya 6.5 complete on win xp that if i get an im or switch to another app mid-render that the render screen goes white and i can no longer track progress. essentially the maya app stops visually updating itself so that even the info line is of no service. probably bc the processor is busy i know. not really a problem unitl it is a problem, meaning that usually the render completes and things go back to normal, but i do some complex rendering and sometimes maya just never gets back to me bc of something i do wrong in the setup. but that leaves me wondering if i should just stop maya and start over or let it chug away.

so my question is "how can i get maya to let me know if it is still rendering or hung-up?" btw the output window is of no use in this sitch.

thx in advance

Well a similar subject was raised in another forum and someone suggested right-clicking on the Alias/Maya7.0/Bin/Maya.exe file, go to "Properties/Compatibility" and under Compatibility mode select "Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows 2000", also tick "Disable visual themes" and turn off "Advanced text services for this program".
Hope this works for you.

that worked great! thanks for the quick reply. no more wondering!
