Actually thets not true 64 bit applications are a tad slower than 32 bit ones, this is offset by the fact that 64 bit processors have slight overhead running 32 bit code, as well as being more modern porcessors wich oviously yealds some power.
But the main deal is that you can allocate more memory in 64 bit systems, wich means you can have MUCH bigger lookup trees and speed up the lookup more efficiently for complex scenes. Which turns to faster renders.
same applies to the amount of polys you canb have on screen
