Rendering To Avid Codec

Hi,

sometimes, when i render a quicktime using the avid codecs for later import in an avid, shake starts the render, but when i look at the quicktime file being written, it is only 4k in size. It does not grow and stays that small until the render has finished. Needless to say that the resulting file is unusable.
If i change the codec to animation for example, it renders ok. Any advice on this?

If you're using 10.4.5 then i'm guessing you have quicktime7 installed?

Its possible the version of the avid codec you have is not QT7 compatible. I have not seen this in relation to shake, but we have 5 meridien based avids running on os9.2.2 and QT 6 and because avid have not released any meridien codecs that work on QT7, then i cannot use an avid codec movie on my Protools (because its QT7 and won't read the file). I'm guessing you have a similar problem.

What resolution are you rendering at? The avid codecs only support a few different resolutions otherwise it will fail (720x480).

@ ightningad: Yes, i have QT7 and i am able to render avid quicktimes with AE no problem. I can also open and play avid quicktimes in QT7. I dont have the problem you describe.

As mentioned, rendering quicktimes from AE works, and i am aware that it supports only the standard PAL and NTSC resolutions.
